"Digital purchase" is kind of an oxymoron anyway, people don't want to purchase movies digitally (or physically) in most cases ... streaming a movie from Netflix or "renting" a new release from their cable provider is what they want, not to purchase a "digital copy" of a movie for $20 or whatever.

Indeed. It's the physical rental market that has practically disappeared. And it has also taken part of the movie sales market with it. I never see figures how many people actually purchase digital movies to own. Apparently the movie industry has been catching on to this fact as well as they now hold new releases hostage for a few weeks, digital sales first, then rentals and blu-ray release. Ofcourse pirates still get it first and without regional or other restrictions.
