I believe the Wii U will hit 9M or even 10M if it markets itself correctly. The competition really isn't over yet. If Nintendo can market the games well, whether that be in stores or on TV, the Wii U could do some massive numbers. Not as massive as say PS4 or Xbone but it will do some commendable damage. And that's the thing, they have to market these 4 games specifically:
Super Smash Bros. 4 Wii U (why not use the 4 for both titles, that would have been genius!!!)
Super Mario 3D World (Old game but it has so much more potential)
Mario Kart 8 (This will sell like hotcakes during the holidays)
Bayonetta 2 (For the more mature crowd, this game is getting scores that other games could only dream of)
Also, they have to market these 3DS games:
Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire, Omega Ruby
Smash Bros. 4 3DS
Nintendo can rake in the dough if they put in the work and creativity outside their own games.
