1) Who exactly set the expectations so high? You can't blame the developers / publishers for marketing the game. That's their job, to get people to want their product. Just because you (not literally you) had super high expectations, doesn't mean you can blame the people who made it.
2) or it's the consumers fault for not researching the game before buying (or preordering) it. The Wiki page shows exactly what to expect from gameplay to story...if you didn't look it up, that's on you. They did provide the information, you just failed to look at it.
