Because it's down YoY in both cumulative totals (i.e. YTD) and down compared to the same week last year. It's doing well, but it's still down no matter how you look at it.
And the thing is, the PS4 downplaying will happen next year. It's happening in this very thread. But you're just taking the 3DS stuff to heart.
It's fine that you want to be ever-the-optimist about any Nintendo numbers. But you have to accept that other people don't have to be so optimistic and they've certainly got grounds to be if they want.
