Well considering CoD4 has probably already passed Halo 2 as the best selling shooter of all time (with PC version sales), obviously it's a sales beast.
CoD4 has been the top selling game on Steam since it's launch. Usually above even The Orange Box and the rest of Valve's games. I'm sure it's sold at least 1 million units on the digital distribution system and probably over 2 million on PCs total.
