I'd say the tablet was the main culprit. Nintendo was aiming for 300$ price point but the tablet cost 80$-100$ to manufacture.

If they choose a traditional controller for the next gen console they will be able to squeeze much more power in their hardware.

Also lower power = runs cooler/less noise/lower electricity bills/less chance to get RROD/YLOD type of problems.

Don't get me wrong, I personally like that Wii U doesn't inflate my power bill, runs cool and quiet, is reliable, and doesn't take up much space.

But the average consumer doesn't care about these things when selecting which console they will buy.
