If anyone brings up misogyny in games or whatever about this title I will firmly slap them in the face. Considering I have somewhat of an attraction to powerful females says a lot about me :P |
And this is exactly why Bayonetta's sexuality is not empowering for women but rather pure fetishization.
The game was not designed so that women and girl gamers could explore their sexuality and have the chance to feel liberated in a society that otherwise tries to limit the expression of their sexuality; the game was designed so that the main character's sexuality and sexualization would appeal to a specific demographic of heterosexual male gamers. That's a form of sexual objectification.
Does that mean the game can't have any redeeming aspects and that Bayonetta can't also have positive attributes? Of course not. But let's not ignore a game's problematic aspects just because it's enjoyable.
