The article's very reactionary and the #Gamergate link is tenuous at best.
I actually don't think the game will do particularly well though. There are plenty of other games that allow you the freedom to play at acts of mass violence if you wish. Those games tend to also have other elements that bring in wider audiences and give the games extra dimensions. Based on the description this seems to lack any real depth.
Then again, articles like this may just give them the marketing push they need.
