I agree but aren't PS3 components hard to get down in price?  I think that's why they haven't been lowering it (that and MS not lowering).  PS4 was designed to get down in price quickly and has common PC parts.  Unlike PS3 I can see it getting down to $99 eventually.  PS3 has another major price cut in it next year some time where it will go $150 for the 12gb, $200 for 250gb, and $250 for 500gb.  Possibly they will get everything $50 lower than that but will it matter at that point?

That may be true but doesn't that make it seem like it'll be easier for the PS4 to obtain this goal?

Gaming as a whole grew significantly last generation. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be as big as it was last generation (It seems like a few systems will fall short of their predecessors). But I don't see it being out of the realm of possiblities for the PS4 to at least come close to the goal. Afterall, wasn't it said just a few months ago (okay so maybe in June) that nearly half of PS4 owners didn't even own a PS3?

true.  I'm not gonna rule out the possibility as I certainly think PS4 will reach low prices fairly quickly especially compared to last gen but it would have to steal almost the entire 360 userbase plus some Wii owners.  I think it may do that but I also think it depends on a number of things such as when PS5 releases and how inexpensive it is an if it's backwards compatible both of which could cut into the PS4's legs.
