I wouldn't say it's an exaggeration but the last few months tend to be when the systems sell the most during each year. It looks like it needs a total of 5.76 million. Looking at the front page, it says as of October 4th, so that gives it 12 weeks to hit the 17 million mark. That means it'll have to average about 480,000 consoles a week for the next 2 months. I don't see that as being impossible considering that during the holiday season, people are rushing to buy systems and there could easily be a couple of weeks where the system will hit 1 million in sales (if only because of bundles). I think it'll be close and it's more likely to end slightly below 17 million but it's not really a big stretch.

Averaging 480 000 consoles per week is pretty hard on the second year at the last quarter when you start considering that the record holder is the WII with an average of 580 000 units per week. What's more is that the PS4 also struggles to sell 1 million units per month so the PS4's performance as the leading platform is far from ideal in comparsion to both the WII and PS2.

The diff is wii collapsed, ps4 won't...wii was a flash in the pan, and folded...Ps2 will never be matched. Ps4 will outsell wii easy long term as it will have legs. Anyone who brings up the wii without mentioning how fast it folded and how it sold to a market that no longer exists. Sony already has 2 consoles that sold better due to legs.
