Playing a Zelda game without controlling Link would be like playing a Mario game without controlling Mario or a Metroid game without controlling Samus. That said, I would totally dig a spin-off where you played as Zelda, with Link being completely absent and not appearing as a NPC. I don't ever want female Link, though. |
That's a fair answer, and it's why I included it in the poll. Initially I was just going to make it part of the see results option, but I decided that it deserved its own spot. Some fans would want to take a stance against changing the protagonist, and they had a right to voice that stance the same as anyone else.
I'm still not really sure how to approach the options. Maybe a spin-off about Zelda, rather than a main series game in which you play as Zelda, should have been explicitly included as part of the "Zelda" answer. Or maybe I'm specifically referring to main-series entries here. Haven't quite made up my mind.
Mainly I'm simply curious to see how fans react to the ideas of female Link vs Link as an NPC. Are either of these damning to his "character"? Which one is more offensive to long-time Zelda fans? I guess I'm not really getting that through the poll... I'll add it to the OP.
