first console for it's regular controller to have speakers. The PS4 controllers are fricken cool the way they have that. like the phone rings in game in infamous second son and the ringing comes out of the controller. can't help but put the controller up to my ear every time and say hello in a really weird voice :D

First gaming console to offer a streaming service. aka PS Now

First console to have a social hub, PS Home.

First console to push 3D gaming? PS3

God gaming is so much better off for having Sony when you think about it. How can you not but love a company like that.

As people are saying, Sega, and more specifically with the genesis has accomplished what many are saying sony did first.  Onlive did streaming first.  Sega genesis was the first console to offer full games downloadable over the internet, and I'm sure sony wasn't the 1st to have a social hub.  Even if you have to count PCs.

If you don't count PCs, it still isn't innovative to say sony did the exact same thing you can do on computers and applied it to consoles.

I don't like nintendo or micrsoft products.  But, it feels weird for me to say that I can't think of a single useful innovation sony has ever done with console that didn't already exist somewhere else in some form.

Xbox had hard disk drives

Sega CD did discs

Sega did downloads, online play, voice chat, internet browsing, and all sorts of things.

What did sony do?

Light guns?  No... CDs?  No.. multi-taps? no...  DVDs are stand-alone.  taking something like that and adding it to consoles isn't innovation.  Same goes for bluray.

I know... being able to change the HDD without voiding the warrenty.  That counts (barely) for me.

The rest of the stuff about USB ports, and controller buttons and clicking and stuff...  That stuff isn't innovative.  Just being first doesn't mean innovative.  That's not what the word means.

i stopped reading your reply at the pc did it first bit. we're talking about consoles and the whole this did it first thing can be applied to everything even computers.  all modern technology is taking existing technology and using it to better effect. sony's innovation is taking others like the dvd or blu ray and implementing it into it's console. not claiming they invented the shit.

also onlive is not on a console so stop bending the rules in here. it's clearly about consoles so just because you don't want to praise sony you change to something irrelevant.

it's like saying we shouldn't be greatful for ferrari because yano they didn't initially invent the wheel. /SMH

How can you bother to respond when you have no idea what I said?  If you bothered reading the last part of what I said.  Being first does not automatically make something innovative.  Which seems to be your entire premise for argument.

What onlive did is absolutly innovative.  WE KNOW onlive and Gaikai were basically in competition with one another.  So, when onlive fails, and Gaikai becomes Playstation now, it's suddenly innovative?!  Are you kidding?  We're all aware that the only reason Onlive failed is because of google fiber not being standard.

You may not think of it as a console, but, I consider it, and handhelds as consoles.  They aren't home television consoles per-se, but they are micro-consoles and handheld CONSOLES.

But... one thing I forgot...  Sony did in part own blu-ray and they pushed it.  I don't think there was ever a game that needed all 50+GB of space, or even a 2-disc bluray game, and that, in part is why the PS4 was right in keeping it.

Maybe I'd even credit with the touch pad as innovative, on the PS4 controller.  It may not be first but that controller feels nice.  I bought one just for the sake of using it on my computer and PS3 last october.  No problems with it, and I play fighting games mostly.  I can shoryuken just fine.  EWGF for the rare occasions I pick Kazuya, eventhough I don't use him. But, obviously, I haven't had a chance to use that pad.  Outside of clicking it like a button.

So, screw it.. That entire controller is innovative.  It was developed by the developers of the software and it works.  Yeah, directional pads... nintendo. diamond shaped action buttons, I get it.  But, with everything brought together, sony turned a good controller that I like a lot but was getting sick of (ps3) and made it better (ps4).

Too bad the console looks like something that fell off Metal Gear Rex.

Forget what anyone says, that PS3 controller was great.  But, the 4 has a better one.  I haven't had any thumb stick problems, and my hands don't make excessive oils, or anything like that.

The ONE thing i don't like are the lack of pressure sensitive buttons on the PS4.  makes everything so clicky and I don't like that.
