Will New 3DS give the handheld a 1up and maybe give it some good legs?

According to http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-10-15-nintendos-new-3ds-and-3ds-xl-sold-230k-over-japan-launch-weekend Nintendo managed to sell more than 230,000 new3DS's in Japan in under a week. Color me impressed. But my question is will the sales continue and will it have an impact on the West? If this thing really makes an impression over here, I'm sure the 3DS brand will have steady legs and maybe even peak next year? I don't know you guys tell me.
