I just tried it with a DVD I burned to back up my laptop's hard drive and the PS3 recognized some of the media on it and allowed me to copy it. I'm not sure if it would work with one big file (my DVD has like 12000 files on it) but I think it would.
Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it
