Nintendo needs to attract new studios, maybe even totally unknown ones. The folks at EA, Ubisoft, Activision (read: mass market, easily money making entertainment) won't take risks but lots of great companies started with a small risk. That is what Nintendo has to be after. People who have a vision, an idea, that wouldn't work on "normal" consoles or PC and where raw power doesn't matter much.
It's definitely another market Nintendo tries to go after but they should invest more and not just sit there with a few exceptions from Platinum and Retro.
