How powerful will Nintendo's next handheld be?

ya ur probably right, Nintendo will not offer that type of service i described, all im saying is if they did it could be a big deal and make Nintendo alot of money since i doubt the average 3DS owner spends over $50/year on the virtual console.

in a way i guess ur right, if u combined all the strengths of Vita/3DS and got rid of all their weaknesses then thats pretty much the device im describing.

low entry price at launch+big hitting multimilion selling franchises+excellent indie support+tons of $19.99 retail games+high value subscription service=dedicated handhelds continuing to have a viable market despite onsloaught of phones/tablets

the handheld market may continue to shrink but i strongly believe if Nintendo doesnt completely fuck up, their next handheld device will still sell 50+ million.

You set the goalposts in a way that makes Nintendo the only company in the world that can possibly make the cut. That is totally pointless and meaningless. Vita has exclusive games from massive franchises that appeal to millions of people - this really isn't worth debating. It just doesn't have enough of them, cause stupid Yoshida decided to keep supporting the inevitably dying and soon to be replaced PS3 instead of helping to push the Vita in its first year to make the new product successful on the market. He should be fired for it, but instead he's only getting praise for the PS4 success. Absurd.

So I see you finally agree that what you described as the desired next console from Nintendo is basically a Vita Only from Nintendo. To tell the truth I've always believed that Nintendo software on Sony hardware would be the ultimate combo. Just imagine Vita getting all the 3DS games, improved to take advantage of the extra potential. Would be so epic.

I doubt people spend $50 for VC games as well, but then again I don't know if VC games alone would be enough to convince people to pay this much. Depends just on how many consoles would be covered by VC. NES, SNES, N64, GCN, GBA, DS, 3DS? If Nintendo gave us all that to play on the go for $50, I'd buy the console day 1 and gladly pay, but if the 3DS games are excluded, I'd have to think for a longer while if it's really worth it and I guess it probably isn't.

The market is shrinking, but on the "positive" side, it seems Nintendo has it all for itself, as there won't be any more handhelds from Sony from now on.
