EDIT : I just made a little calculation. If FIFA PS3 was 150K and admitting it's down 50% in second week, Smash isn't even reaching 100K, which makes the 2.8m sold to consumers impossible.

the 2.8m is shipped. I don't know 100%, but Nintendo has only given shippen numbers up until now, they even list Wii U shipped numbers as "sold" in their financial reports.

Some people not very far from here were adamant that they were sold to consumers (EDIT : look, they've showed up already). Ninty did say "in the hands of consumers", which would end up being a straight lie.
