I'd love for Nintendo to take another stab at 3rd person 3D Metroid, with a fully functional control system and a non-insipid storyline, simply because I think there's more room for innovation there. Sadly, with Other M being...the way it was...3rd person 3Dtroid will probably never get another chance.

So I guess if I'm picking between a first person or a 2D Metroid, I'll go with 2D. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Prime Trilogy, but I feel like a limit has been reached in terms of expanding creatively for first person Metroid games. Meanwhile, we haven't had a completely original 2D game in 12 years...seems like there'd be more room for innovation there.
