I don't understand what you're saying.  You can't disregard the past.  Iwata didn't get appointed yesterday and these are not new-found ideals.  Saying that Nintendo doesn't "follow or imitate", that such a philosophy "speaks to his heart", those are just excuses.  They chose a path which did not work out as planned.  They wanted gaming to revolve around Nintendo but the industry had other ideas.  He's just trying to paint their failures as virtues.

What? He is not saying that at all. He is literally stating something yamauchi told him. He isnt saying the other manufacturers are wrong for doing that. He even states he understands why they would....

 

The only thing that can be construed as an excuse is when states how the entertainment industry is unpredictable.
