Total SW compatibility across the whole range is an excellent idea. About HW, they'll have to offer at least a model that won't force users wanting both portable and full home experience to get a duplicate... For example a portable, most likely the highest-end one, with 2-speed GPU and CPU like many notebook PCs, slower and lower res when running on batteries, faster when plugged into the mains.
Built-in multiprocessing support in the HW and SW architecture could allow a different solution: a docking station with all the necessary connections for a home console and dedicated CPU and GPU that could add their power to those present in the portable module when using it as home console.
