What major non-indie third party developers are releasing exclusive third party games? The only one I can think of is Square Enix (FFXIV), but that's on the PS3 so it's not a power gap issue. If the PS2 didn't shut out the other two consoles then what makes you think the PS4 will? Developers are a lot less financially stable now so they can't afford to ignore a console, no matter how big the gap appears to be. If games like Call of Duty actually made it to the Wii last gen, then AAA games will be on the XB1 for years to come. Yes the PS4 has more power, but do you really think developers will take time to actually add in a host of new things just for the PS4? Right now the only differences between multiplats are resolution, and sometimes colors. Also, there are plenty of XB1 games that are "new games with new content". The last thing I can agree on. The XB1 will not catch up unless Sony does something stupid. |
Erm, check your sig - the Order? =p Also some of the best games have been small exclusives eg. Journey, SotC, or from new studios eg. God Of War Devs, Guerrilia Games, Naughty Dog and so on. The classic multiplats are rarely the games that people remember and are normally launched at a time to fill quiet periods - look at how CoD is doing now it has actual competition from games offering new content.
*Prediction* Now in a few years time when the xbone is offering still the same games as from launch in terms of content, graphics etc, and people become more accustom to better graphics, HD resolution, and 60 fps from their phones/tablets, people will move to the PS4 in larger numbers as their expectations will have been raised. Devs will follow the market, and also as seen, offering the same game in a different box no longer seems to sell and that died out with the 7th Gen. People want new content, and the xbone will struggle to deliver it due to its power limits. The PS4 will be able to reach that limit (only just though), thus should start reeling in the devs etc.
Of course though this assumes that Publishers stop being moronic and actually opt for quality over size of market.....which is a long shot. I wouldn't be surprised if what actually happens is that the PS4 gets gimped games and starts to suffer like the PC has for the last 7 years. This however will make exclusives look far more enticing and I would not be surprised if multiplats start to sell badly on the PS4 when the exclusive library picks up and give gamers a good way of comparing games.
Also reffering back to the PS2, those days were great as multiplat did not really exist, and the 2 consoles received different games, even if they were called the same name eg. Ghost reckon. The PS2 and xbox recieved uttlery different versions, with the PS2 being dire, and the xbox being great - and the power difference back then was tiny.
