Because if they make this Handheld-Console hybrid, why should I choose the handheld? They're both getting the same games, and the console is just more fitting to me. So the handheld will just die. Or the opposite could happen (but that's less likely). Look at Vita-PS3/4.

The theoretical "Fusion" is not what you think it is. It is both a handheld and a console, not a console and a handheld that work together. Its like if Nintendo was able to build the entire Wii U into the gamepad, which would allow it to send signals to a tv or play games without a tv and away from an external power source. I don't really believe that it is technically possible right now (or at least for a decent price) but it is an interesting idea that I think Nintendo should look very closely into.

EDIT: Or maybe that is just my interpretation, because this is all just "Nintendo should do..."

that goes against many of the things Nintendo has said at recent investor meetings. they said that next-gen their devices will be more unified like "brothers" and that they will "absorb" the Wii U architecture and have different "form factors".

to me that doesnt imply a handheld that streams to televisions but rather seperate devices with the same architecture & operating system, similar specs and the ability to play all the same software.
