It can contribute to graphics but overall there are other factors that weigh in more heavily such as lighting model, shading model, and textures. A bidirectional path traced game with a bidirectional scattering distribution function model will do a much better job of matching the cornell box in real life than a near perfect physics engine. 

There's only so much that physics can contribute to graphics ... 

It's down to a difference of opinion then. To me, the physics were one of the main things that make modded Crysis the most photorealistic game I've seen to date.
