The 2014 Saxxy Awards are live; will be the "biggest Saxxys yet"
It’s that time of year again. The time where players of Team Fortress 2 put aside their arbitrary differences for some creative filmmaking brilliance. There are categories for short, action, comedy and drama this year. Videos are already being submitted to the competition, and we’ll have the nominees on Tuesday next week.
For the time being, lets take a look at last year’s best overall winner. The bar is set extremely high.
Arma 3's Helicopters DLC takes flight on November 4th
Bohemia Interactive have announced the release date for their second premium DLC, this time adding more helicopters to the game. The “highly detailed” CH-67 Huron and the Mi-290 Taru heavy-lift helicopters are the stars of the show, which will be able to transport cargo, troops, supplies and even light vehicles.
There’s some free content too. Everyone will ten new VR helicopter training stages, as well as one helicopter time trial (four more are available in the DLC).
Both Nvidia and AMD are preparing for 8K: “for the human eye that resolution is close to perfection”
4K’s the current buzzword in pretty games. 3840 x 2160. More than 8 million pixels. Twice Four times the resolution of 1080p, it makes the old standard look like you’re playing games on an etch a sketch, not a computer. Right now, graphics card manufacturers are making cards that can pump out that many pixels, monitor makers are making screens them, and game developers are making games that demand them.
4K’s for wusses, I want to know about 8K.
I spoke to AMD and Nvidia to find out what they’re doing to make it happen.
Welcome to the VRAM apocalypse
The Evil Within and Shadow of Mordor are both asking for insane amounts of VRAM.
WTF is going on?
Far Cry 4 trailer reintroduces Pagan Min with kidnapping, torture and an absurd chase sequence
I’m not especially interested in Far Cry 4’s dapper antagonist, Pagan Min, and wasn’t planning on posting this trailer that reintroduces him. Ubisoft makes more trailers than I can keep up with, anyway. But then I decided to watch it, and I changed my mind.
The tiger and elephant attacks certainly look like a good time, but they are topped by a high speed chase involving a quad bike, a plane and a wingsuit. Oh, and of course an explosion. Direct your eyes below for the turned up to 11 silliness.
Playing With Myself: The Long Dark
Playing With Myself is a new series where I faff around in a newly launched or Early Access game for under an hour, and you watch me do all of this faffing on the ol' YouTube. Then, if you fancy it, you can take a gander at my written impressions. It's a Let's Play and an impressions piece stiched together like Frankenstein's monster. Also, it has a slightly rude title. Hooray!
I am being stalked by death, a hunter whose name is mother nature. She’s terrible and inescapable. Where survival games are often filled with supernatural or psychopathic antagonists, The Long Dark pits survivalists against the environment and the completely regular beasts that roam it.
It’s lonely, gorgeous and infinitely more threatening than a world filled with zombies.
