It wouldn't be nearly as difficult on Nintendo's hardware since the WIi U uses components that are upgrades of the CG ones. Or if you prefer, they're the same family of hardware components. Unlike what you use on PC to emulate the GC.

Isn't the WiiU's Wii mode a carbon copy of the Wii? I always thought the lack of Gamecube compatibility was because the WiiU can't read GC's mini discs.

It's probably also the way they have to make their rom files too. Dealing with games that are two discs. The swaping system needs to be in place. Those little things. Also maybe since Wii Mode doesn't fully work in Wii U mode causes problems. It be dumb we'd have to go into Wii game mode to run GC VC games.
