That's inexcusable. The original concept was shown almost a decade ago. I guess a lot of staff were pulled to revive FFIV. I think they rebuilt the title in the Xenoblade mold after the poor reception FFXIII received. Hopefully we'll see the game in 2016, but 2015 looks like it's out.

In what universe do people believe this actually happened?

Maybe because the new trailer looks like they're driving through Gaur Plains from Xenoblade? And because the combat system looks to have similarities to Xenoblade and FF12. And because Xenoblade was the biggest JRPG success story of the 7th gen and came right when the genre looked on the verge of collpase. And because the game out Final Fantasy'd any FF game of last generation and felt like what FF13 should have been. And because Square desperately needs the series to get back on track after spending the last decade trying to remove JRPG elements from FF. And following a blueprint of the game that saved JRPG's last gen is probably a safe way to start back on the right track. And because this game has shifted gears so many times in the last decade of development, it wouldn't be surprising if they completely did a 180 with what it was going to be prior to revealing it as FFXV. Do I need to keep going?

This is only because of your experience. It looked far more like the Calm Lands or Pulse to me. The combat has far more in common with Crisis Core (especially based on interviews where he described how it feels and controls). It has similarities to previous games Square has made, you're reaching to find coorelation to a game you like.

You don't realize how little impact Xenoblade has had on the genre. It didn't "save" or change anything.
