They've lost money every year since 2011 (the year the 3DS launched). The 3DS become profitable, right when the Wii U then became an achor on their bottom line. They're looking at going from 100 million consoles to maybe 18 million this generation. From 150 million handhelds down to probably about half that. But yeah ... they finally figured out what HD is 10 years after every other developer. Progress. Nintendo's needed a "couple more Western developers" for about 12 years now. This generation has been a nightmare for Nintendo, probably one beyond their wildest dreams. This is a company that never posted a full year fiscal loss in almost 100 years of operation prior to this generation starting. The sooner they can write this whole five year period off probably the better. I think Nintendo would prefer that the last few years never happened. |
It's funny everybody always claim Nintendo sales are in the toilet ....yes the wii u has not sold as much as the wii but now are profiting on every console sold and the 3ds will sell less than the ds but is far from a failure and is profiting on every console sold ......people seem to always point out Nintendo issues and lack of sales but every home console has been profitable Sony last generation went from selling 154 million ps2 to 83 million ps3 ...Sonyportables PSP went from selling 80 million to 8 million Vitas ...Sony playstation brand had loses for years (2006-2011)but no ones talks about that ...I'm not mentioning this to bash Sony but it's a double standard when it comes to Nintendo ...it's sickening Nintendo has only like two of three yearly losses in 125 years but it's always doom and gloom Nintendo isn't going anywhere anytime soon and it's funny they have the number one portable and number two console and they get all this doom and gloom ..it's crazy smh lol
