Well, NGC had a huge price drop, it only helped it to reach 22M

The initial Gamecube price cut was in reaction to a bigger more aggressive price cut made by the PS2.  

NGC launch price $199 --> cut to $149 (-$50) in May 2002.

PS2 launch price $299 --> cut to $199 (-$100) in May 2002.

That PS2 price cut basically stopped the GC in it's tracks.  In the end the PS2 price cut was enough to keep it's momentum going, and to note around 80% of all PS2 sold were priced at $199 or under.
