Are you thinking that smash 3D doesn't have local play? Because it does if that is your question

However the person your playing with has to have their own copy of the game, no download play

And they all have to have 3ds.  It's a big hurdle to get a 4 player game together.  I have lots of friends who like Nintendo but these systems aren't popular enough to find 4 people easily.  Also I just don't like handhelds very much anyway and would need the bigger more comprehensive experience with my preferred control scheme.
