Well, thats that point of the article isn't it?  That the hardware has already become powerful enough that new gameplay experiences are not opened up just by releasing more powerful hardware.  We have hit a point of diminishing returns.

Improvement on existing gameplay is a good enough reason to bring out a new gen of consoles if you ask me :)

But there hasn't been.  Just better graphics for the most part.
