| DucksUnlimited said: Yeah, the Halo thing is not gonna happen. People said the same thing about pokemon for the 3ds and were completely wrong. The reason these franchise are so big is because they appeal to both core and casual gamers. While most of the core halo fans on forums probably already have the console, the mountain dewd bros dont and for a lot of them Halo 5 will be the tipping point. The only thing that could damage Halo 5's ability to move systems is MCC getting a lot of the Halo fans to hop onboard. Either way people will be buying the system for Halo. |
The dude bro phenomenon... when people say this i think they forget to mention that the real dude bro game last gen was COD. Every yearly iteration of that game completely dominated sales. What the 360 had going for it was that it was the ultimate dude bro console. So in addition to CoD they also had gears of war and Halo.
The way I see it, is if COD:AW sells better on the PS4 then that right there is the final nail in the XB1's coffin. Cause that will be a clear indication that the "casual" FPS gamers are also going to the PS4 this gen. That puts us right back in PS2 territory where Halo sells very well but only to a core base of gamers.
Another way to look at it is that anyway we spin it we are talking about yearly sales of at least 12M. Thats what will be in contention when considering PS4 sales. So far all year (2014) the XB1 has only managed sales of under 3M. By the end of 2014 it could have managed sales of around 7M (this is being very generous). I believe that for the first 9 months of next year sales for the XB1 will be even worse than they were this year, so for halo 5 to make a difference, we would be expecting it to sell at least 4M consoles. I just don't see that happenning.
And why do i think sales for the first 9 months of next year wil be worse for XB1 than it was this year? Well its going to be a fall out of what is already happening this year. It doesn't help the XB1s case that every game is considered to run and play better on the PS4. That has seemingly become general and common knowlege. There are a ton of really big multiplat games coming next year. All those multiplats (if current trends continue) will give a bigger boost to PS4 sales than they would to XB1 sales. What you end up with is a situation where the only people buying or holding out for an XB1 are people that actually want to get Halo 5. So we end up with monthly sales decimation at the expense of a halo boost in the fall.
