I see that kind of behavior as akin to "griefing", especially since it was pretty much certain death for noobs but only a major annoyance for high level players if news reports did not misinform.

The truth is that happens, you hear all the time of people purposley passing on STIs and HIV. I think if you knew the end was coming you don't want to be the only sufferer... especially if you had been screwed over in some way by other people you wouldn't think logically anymore. It would cross a lot of peoples minds to go to your worst enemies house and cough in their face.
