If that was the case, the original Monster Hunter Freedom would have been on the DS, or it's sequel, or 2nd G that just came out.
Also, as KoW stated, there is a hell of a lot of customization going on, and the game controls horribly with only one analog stick, so how would it control lacking an analog stick. The game would have to be VERY dumbed down.
Take this from an owner of Monster Hunter Freedom and it's sequel. If you play it on the PSP, you will know that if it had any less buttons to control it than it does, the game would be broken.
