They're just jealous because Apple makes better phones. That's all.

If by better you mean less features, worse specs and higher price, then yeah.

Yeah, I thought like that too until some months ago. I had the Xperia Z for nearly two years and I was sure that it beats any iPhone because of better specs and a Full HD screen and what not. But there are many things the reviews don't tell you. Sometime I got my hands on an iPhone 5S, the first time I ever used an iPhone. And it blew my mind. The specs are not that good on paper, but the system is just ridicilously fluid. Everything is snappy as hell, you click an app, it's there instantly. On Android I used to wait a few seconds for an app to start and even the menu itself had to fight with some jaggies despite a Quad-Core and 2 GB RAM. Need I to tell you that the iPhone takes photos instantly and you don't have to wait 2 seconds like with many Androids? On top of that, the camera makes better photos than some 20 MP smartphones. It's not all about specs at the end of the day.

But that's not all. The iPhone has also an unmatched build quality imo. I've never seen a phone so damn solid before in my life. And yes, I also tried the Galaxy S4 and S5. The only phone that comes close imho is the HTC One M8, but it isn't really there. But it not only feels really nice in your hand, it's also way more practical. I had to clean my Xperia Z two times a week with a glasses wipe or else the screen not only looked like shit, the touchscreen also wasn't all that responsive anymore. That really got on my nerves. No such problems with my iPhone 5S. I have it for two monhts, never cleaned it and it looks like I just took it out of the packaging. I don't know what kind of magic is used for that, but I absolutely love it.

Last but not least, the app store ist just better than Google Play. Sure, everything comes to Android sooner or later, but why wait for the good apps when you can get them earlier and in a better version? No fragmentation on iOS, apps almost always run just the way they should.

All that made me get an iPhone 5S instead of a new Xperia, Galaxy or some other Android phone. I never was a great fan of apple and yes, the phones are really overpriced. So if money is an issue, I wouldn't recommend it. But it's just that everything on the iPhone fits so well while on Android many features feel tacked on, they just don's always work like they should.

But yeah, I guess in the end it's also kind of a personal thing. I'll stay with Windows for my PC, I'll stay with Xperia for tablets. I don't think Apple is the second coming of christ. But when it comes to smartphones, I'll stick to the iPhone until something fundamental changes for Android. The system just needs to become way faster, it's not even close to iOS.
