You mean we could have played Nintendo franchises on a true-HD device with standard third-party support and without the gimmicks? Dear lord, please turn back time.

1. The gamecube > Xbox

2. The Wii sold quite a bit more than the 360 ( = more successful).

3. 720 p 'hd' (which is what most of 360 games were and not even most of original xbox games if memory serves me correctly) would not have done much for Nintendo's more cartoonish style in video games. Obvioulsy, 1080p makes a difference but the early on "high definition" games didn't really look that much better than the standard definition games from the generation before.

4. Those "gimmicks" are what sold, what still sells, and what will continue to sell Nintendo devices. All those succesful generations of Nintendo devices? Yea... Nintendo introduced NEW things and NEW playstyles in each of them. The original xbox did horrible in sales and while the 360 did much better it still came no where close to Wii level. The Wii U I doubt will ever have a point where the one passes it (especially if xbox is spun off).

5. Don't blame Nintendo for third party developers being too lazy to optimize games for their consoles because it "takes too long to program for their controllers." Lazy developers = apathetically passive buyers. It's their own fault.

6. Much love!

I agree and disgree with somethings here. Nintendos history with third party is mostly their own fault. They are a very controlling company and outsiders visions dont really mesh well with them. Third parties have always had issues with them because of it and the Playstation exists because of the disagreeable nature of Nintendo.
