There is one technique that they've made a lot easier to perform in Brawl though. I've always called it the ''Perfect Shield'' in Melee, but this time you know you've pulled it off when you hear big ''shield'' sound. It's the one that can reflect objects/projectiles thrown at you or just completely stop a strong/smash attack (and you can Shield+A after... etc.).

They've made that easier? My timing must be off then... I could easily do that in Melee, but I haven't hit the sweet spot in Brawl yet.

I don't know, I usually don't try and I get it perfectly! o_o

I guess it just comes more naturally this time around. In Melee, they made the shield system a lot more complex (you could just gently push the L/R-triggers, or you could push it completely and make a totally different shield effect), and I think that's what made it more complicated compared to Brawl's system where you just have to push the shield completely at the perfect timing. I was never certain how to pull it off in Melee, sometimes I got it and I thought I didn't push the trigger completely or vice versa.

You could also up shield and down shield in Melee.  Speaking of which, I haven't tried those in Brawl.

Edit:  You can only down shield in Brawl if you're already crouching.  You can also back/forward shield if you start out crouching.  O.o
