Increased HDTV's sales have significantly increased PS3 sales.

Well thats the thing. I know several people that own massive HDTV's and they only have DVD's. Its not like they can't afford BR. Its just that they don't know or care really. The upscaled DVD's look good enough on an HDTV for people to not care atm.
