I still want to know why the huge delay.

"As Morin explains, it was simply a matter of limited manpower. Some members of the Wii U development team were borrowed, so to speak, in order to ensure the other platforms made their May release date."

Essentially they were behind schedule with the other versions, so they removed the people that were working on the Wii U edition and split them to help the other teams and finish on time for the May release, that was around february of this year, so since feb till end of may nobody was working on WD for Wii U, that is 4 months of delay just there. When the team was reunited, Ubisoft could just cancel the Wii U edition, but the developers wanted to finish it and they got a green light if they were able to finish it by the end of 2014, which they did.

when you put it that way its not so bad
