They are catering to a spoiled child that every birthday he must get more gifts than the one before. If there too many cars you want get to appreciate what you got.
200 cars is plenty, there will be DLC pack to keep you interest anyways down the road. Better be one or two free DLC

With GT2, GT4, GT5 and GT6 the total number of cars is impressive but when you take out all the duplicate and near duplicate cars the actual number of cars is a lot lower. They could easily cut the number of Skyline/GT-R's by 60 and no one really needs 20 of the same Mazda Miata's or almost 20 of the same Honda S2000's.

I've read that if you take pure duplicates out (so japanese vs European versions of the same cars) that have very few differences there are around 900 cars in GT6, and you have to remember there are almost 500 cars that are premium in GT6, of which there are very very few cars with similar modles.

Well to me a car that is off by one year but still in the same generation of model is still a duplicate so the actual number of different cars in GT6 is only arround 700.
