I find it funny how the author mentions how long Metroid has been dormant, a whopping 2.5 years at the time of Dark Moon's release, while completely ignoring the fact that Luigi's Mansion took 11.5 years to get a sequel.

To put that into perspective, I was 9 years old when the first game released, in the single digits and not old enough to really do anything without adult supervision. When the sequel released I was 21, old enough to legally drink and just a few months away from being a father myself.

Also he seems to forget that Metroid has seen 7 games release in the time it took Luigi's Mansion to get a sequel. Metroid Fusion/Metroid Prime-2002, Metroid Zero Mission/Prime 2-2004, Metroid Prime Hunters-2006, Metroid Prime 3-2007, Metroid Other M-2010.

Don't get me wrong, I love Metroid and its tied with Zelda as my favorite video game series ever but its ridiculous to act like it deserved a new entry over Luigi's Mansion, which by the way both entries have outsold the best selling Metroid game.
