I think this is a good way to put it 
The market looks like it has shrunk, but it affects Nintendo disproportionately more than Sony and Microsoft. The number of potential buyers of Sony and Microsoft consoles may have decreased a little but no where near as much.

No it didn't, PS2 was at about 130m after eight years. GC doesn't count or if it does, you should count 20m for Wii.
So basically you get ps2+Xbox+DC= 160m. PS3+360 are already over 165m and still going. And that's with an shrinking Japanese market and one console less.
