To say that Nintendo has been slow to embrace many modern elements of gaming would be a massive understatement. They avoided HD and online gaming like the plague all the way up to the Wii U, and even now many of their efforts still feel half-baked. However, I don’t want to discuss their failures, or where they need work. Rather, I want to talk about what they are doing right, and that would be downloadable content.

See, I would never say Nintendo is behind the times, they just go their own pace.  And they usually inform the public why.

Sometimes its other companies that jump the gun, or blaze trails that make it look like Nintendo is slow.

But at the end of the day, its not who did it first, its about how ends up doing it best, or appealingly different.

The results is as you have described:  AOC, Miiverse, etc.  Approaches that make their competitor's offerings look old hat.

As a WiiU and PS4 owner nothing the WiiU does makes the PS4's features look "old hat."  Miiverse doesn't really do anything that great in fact I feel less connected than on my other consoles.  It is nice that I can finally play Mario Kart and will be able to play Smash online and it's great that they added Youtube and Netflix (ok so Youtube came a little early lol) and the gamepad is nice for typing in those apps but I can connect my iphone with the PS4 (and PS3 for that matter) and do the same thing on there.
