No, "indie" is not a all encompassing indicator of quality, but the fact remains that the VAST majority of indie games are pure and utter shit. There are a few gems, but let's not pretend that indie games should be seen in the same light as retail games. As of now, there are dozens of indie games released each week and most will never take off.

We can surely find 30 very good indie games in a year, some  with a small ambition, some with a bigger ambition.

We should stop to pretend  an indie game cant be put on the same level than a retail game. We should take each indie game for what it is. It's easy to see if a game is just a small game or an ambitious game.

And we should stop to think digital game = indie game.

And indie means nothing, Miami Hotline is an indie game, but wouldnt be indie anymore if it was published by Sony/MS/Nintendo/...

We should only talk about how much ambiitous the game is, no matter if it's a retail/indie game. Some games made by indie dev are more ambitious than a lot of retail games ( Rime, Wild, Tomorrow Children in mind even if not indie by definition but digital games so people think " indie" ). Knack and Tearaway are retail games whereas they are very small games in budget term.

So nowadays, there is no line anymore between digital/indie and retail games
