I don't think Nintendo should make another Mario period. At least not for a while. They've become waaaay too reliant on that name to push and really need to consider putting those talents and resources towards something else.

That's a terrible idea. Mario is the largest franchise in the gaming world by a long shot, and the series fans want more of. The great thing about Mario is that you can do so much with him. You can plant him in any type of game and fans will take notice. He's in almost every genre, and he was almost the head of a new shooter ip, but was taken off in the interest of making a new IP, an idea fans seem to be less than happy about because Splattoon has to be a success.

The fact that Mario is a centerpiece in the largest games in the platforming, racing, and fighting genres says a lot. Not to mention he's got a decent following (1m+) in sports, RPG, puzzle, and party games.

The bold in the post that you're replying to is what I believe he was ultimately saying. Also...he has a point. If Mario was the face of Splatoon, you would have gotten fans from others bashing it because they would say Nintendo can't do anything without Mario. Gotta give him a break here in there.  Think about if there was always something with Master Chief from Halo in different Xbox games, or something with Kratos in different PlayStation games. People would get burnt out by those characters. He's not saying don't ever do another Mario game. Just give Mario a rest for a bit before introducing another Mario game.

Oh and at your bolded. He's not the center of fighting games. That belongs to Street Fighter. Still Mario is popular in the field do to the brawler, Super Smash Bros.
