So is PS4 "saved" in Japan?

All big console Japanese publishers will have to support the PS4 at some point by default if they want to make money outside of the non-existant Japanese market. So that means MGS, Final Fantasy, Musou/Dynasty Warriors, Resident Evil, and many other types of Japanese franchises are a lock.

PS4 doesn't need Japan. We Japan lover need Japan though. The PS4's performance there, and in the west to a lesser degree, will make Japanese games appear on the console!

There has to be a reasonable amount of Japanese support on the PS4 regardless, so you're worried about nothing. 

A Japanese developer has to support the PS4/X1 this gen if they want to make console games, that's all there is to it. 

Japanese sales of 8k vs. 15k don't sway developers, that's diddly sh*t in the large scheme of things. Especially when a platform is that expensive to develop for, the games made for the PS4 will largely be cross-gen PS3 piggy-backed projects or Japanese IP that can sell in the West.
