The GameCube did have 3rd party support and did bad, but without 3rd party support it would have probably been much worse.
The Wii had third party support. More than half of the sold Wii games were third party (~500 million units of ~900 million units).
But only 25% of the WiiU software sales (~7 million units of ~28 million units) are third party and the ratio will probably fall under 20% in the next years.
