This surprisingly makes a lot of sense.... I still have reservations on the actual translation and meaning behind the Miyamoto contraversy, and would love for Miyamoto (with his talents of gaming World creation) to try his hand at making titles aimed directly towards the core audience of gamers. But I can see where you're coming from.

Miyamoto didn't criticise casuals or Wii owners. The interpretations of the clickbait articles were terrible.

The "pathetic"-comment came after he was asked about the complicated controls of his prototypes at E3. He wants to make games where people can challenge themselves (with new controls in this example). That isn't against the Wii, it's more against people that refused the Wii because of the non-traditional control sceme.

His criticism was more aiming against the passive attitude gamers that want story-driven experiences with little gameplay. It's no U-turn because Nintendo never made such games.

Lol, this is what I mean.... I don't trust articles. I could see people getting upset, but articles should be taken with a grain of salt.
