Why was the New 3DS really created?

Exactly... The OP's question was why the N3DS was created and that's probably the sole reason: to make current 3DS owners double dip to revitalize 3ds sales.

The only other reason I could see being plausible would be the 3d patent. The Amiibo integration is an improvement to make current owners double dip on the system and the brand recognition reason is absolutely false. 3DS is not even close to being a "hot product" or a very popular product. It's doing sub 100k months in the US and Europe which is a far cry compared to previous Nintendo handhelds.
