I didnt notice any hate. But it is puzzling the way Nintendo are beeing coy. This is effectively the next Nintendo portable.

Do we know that? It sounded a lot more to me like Nintendo was saying it was just an upgraded version of the same console rather than Nintendo's official "next gen" or whatever handheld.

I'd be surprised if Nintendo was this vague about their next gen handheld after the whole Wii U debacle.

Well, yes thats what they say... but in reality its what it is. A new console. How is it different from the DS to the 3DS? Backwards compatible more powerful and new exclusive software. Even if it has the same name, its a new console because the specs are different.

Simply being more powerful doesn't make it a new console generation; the PS3 slim was more powerful than the PS3, but no one considers it a new console.

What strikes me as indicative that this may not be the next handheld for Nintendo is the lack of a major notable innovation point. The DS had the touchscreen, the Wii had motion control, the 3DS had 3D, the Wii U has its tablet...if this is the next handheld, it's a bit out of place as it's lacking a major gimmick of some sort (unless you count an extra nub as a major innovation)
