Still going to have to be conservative here with my expectations.

The 3DS, like Nintendo products in general, sell much like other toys during the holiday season, which is to say disproportionately to the rest of the year. Yes, so do all video game related products, but we've seen it time and time again how Nintendo tends to see bigger jumps in sales over Q4, likely because of the children's market. A lot of Nintendo handhelds are bought as gifts for children.

I'm not even sure SCE knows how many PS4s they can move for the 2014 holiday season, seeing as how they've already stated even they are surprised at how well it's been selling. It may just boil down to availability of product, which is not to say that both or either will be sold out (that would make it easy to predict), although it is far more likely that the PS4 will be shorter in supply than the 3DS.

So who ships more? That may be your answer.
